Foglio D.Istinto: Artist Magazine Pasted on City Walls in Siena

publication · 2026-03-24

MODO, a Brussels-based cultural association founded by artists Serena Fineschi, Alessandro Scarabello, and Laura Viale, has launched Foglio D.Istinto, a non-periodical editorial project that debuted in Siena as artist manifestos affixed to advertising spaces along city streets. The first issue, themed "Il buio" (The Darkness), features texts, artworks, musical compositions, and poems. Printed in black on 70x100 cm sheets, the magazine is designed to be discovered fortuitously by passersby, countering the hyperproduction of digital content and the lack of physical art fruition during the pandemic. MODO deliberately avoids sharing content online, emphasizing a return to slowness and contemplation. After Siena, the project will expand to Rome, Turin, and Brussels. The initiative follows similar projects in Italy, such as Opera Viva Barriera in Turin by Alessandro Bulgini and curated by Christian Caliandro, and "Prossimamente, l'Arte sostiene il Cinema, il Cinema sostiene l'Arte" in Puglia by artists Pierluca Cetera, Maurizio Di Feo, and Jasmine Pignatelli, which used street billboards provided by cinemas.
