Fnac Collection Dispersed Across Mamco's Polysemic Spaces
The Fonds national d'art contemporain (Fnac) and Mamco in Geneva collaborated on an exhibition from November 1, 2002 to January 19, 2003, presenting 49 international artists' works recently acquired by Fnac. Mamco, directed by Christian Bernard, is known for its iconoclastic museography that rejects linear narratives in favor of multi-voiced conceptual systems. The works were scattered across four levels, each with a distinct organizational logic: the first floor featured a domino theory of identical boxes becoming monograph spaces; the second floor disrupted classical museum layout with an inside-outside spatial axiom; the third floor embraced a catastrophe theory with free associations of objects; the fourth floor's labyrinthine space was dedicated to figuration. Artists included Absalon, Artschwager, Breer, Bustamante, Cattelan, Chapman, Christo, Collin-Thiébaut, Downsbrough, Erro, Feldmann, Fromanger, Gette, Grand, Hains, Höller, Huyghe, Isermann, Joisten, Kersels, Matta-Clark, Matta, Mogarra, Nauman, Présence Panchounette, Ramette, Rehberger, Rockenschaub, Sarkis, Séchas, Shaw, Veilhan, and Vilmouth.
