FMAV's Scuola di Alta Formazione: Training the Next Generation of Artists and Curators

Founded in 2017, the Fondazione Modena Arti Visive (FMAV) merges Galleria Civica, Fondazione Fotografia, and Museo della Figurina. Its Scuola di Alta Formazione, initiated in 2011, provides a biennial master’s program for artists and the ICON curator course, which began in 2014, along with short courses called Elements introduced in 2019. Director Claudia Löffelholz emphasizes the school’s connection to FMAV’s exhibitions and its global network. Students benefit from hands-on training and internships while interacting with works by prominent artists. Since 2018, curator students have utilized Modena's collections for exhibitions. The artist course transitioned to an annual format in 2022. After pandemic-related disruptions, in-person exhibitions resumed in summer 2021. Modena is recognized as a UNESCO Creative City for Media Arts.
