Florence to Open Italian Language Museum for Dante's 700th Anniversary
The feasibility study for the Museo della Lingua italiana in Florence's historic center has received approval from the Italian Ministry of Culture (MiBACT). This museum will span 2,000 square meters within the former Monastero Nuovo, allocating 600 square meters for temporary exhibits and 1,400 square meters for its permanent collection. The project, overseen by architect Giorgio Caselli, is part of the redevelopment of the Santa Maria Novella complex. Minister Dario Franceschini and Mayor Dario Nardella highlighted Florence's cultural importance during the announcement. A scientific committee, featuring members from various linguistic institutions, will contribute to the project. Construction is anticipated to commence by 2021, with completion expected within 500-600 days, coinciding with the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri's death. A café and relaxation area will also be included.
