Florence's Vasari Corridor to reopen in 2022 after renovation
The Vasari Corridor in Florence will reopen in 2022 after a two-year renovation. The project, presented by Uffizi director Eike Schmidt and superintendent Andrea Pessina, includes structural consolidation, climate control, accessibility upgrades, and the opening of 73 windows for panoramic views. The corridor will be accessible to the public for the first time on a regular basis, with tickets priced at €45 in high season and €20 in low season, free for school groups. The historic collection of over 700 self-portraits will be relocated to new rooms in the Uffizi. Two memorials will commemorate the 1993 mafia bombing in via Georgofili and the 1944 bombing of Florence. The renovation costs €10 million, funded and managed by Invitalia. The corridor was closed in 2016 for safety reasons. Mayor Dario Nardella praised the project as a democratization of culture. The corridor was built in 1565 by Duke Cosimo I de' Medici.
