Florence Biennale 2021 Awards Vivienne Westwood and Flora Borsi
The 13th edition of Florence Biennale is underway at Fortezza da Basso in Florence until October 31, featuring over 450 exhibitors from 65 countries. The event focuses on the environment and women, awarding British fashion designer and activist Vivienne Westwood the Leonardo da Vinci Career Prize. Hungarian photographer Flora Borsi, who created the biennale's image, and Australian illustrator Jim Tsinganos also received recognition. Visitors can see 60 installations by Italian artists, including Michelangelo Pistoletto's Third Paradise and Oliviero Toscani's portraits from the Razza Umana series; Toscani will also receive a career award. A new pavilion curated by ADI Design Museum of Milan marks the museum's first exhibition outside Milan, alongside the Eccellenza di serie/Serial excellence show organized by Museo de Design Toscano (MuDeTo), which unveils the supercar Mazzanti Evantra Pura (only five units produced in Pontedera). Daily artist encounters, performances, talks, and roundtables are scheduled, including a discussion on October 27 at 5 PM with Westwood, Pistoletto, and Toscani. The biennale aims to foster direct dialogue between the public and creatives.
