Flora Yukhnovich's Rococo-Infused Installation at Frick Collection
Flora Yukhnovich (born 1990, Norwich) has created a site-specific installation for the newly reopened Frick Collection's Cabinet Gallery, responding to François Boucher's 1755 series 'The Four Seasons' painted for Madame de Pompadour. The installation comprises four panels, two over six meters long, blending French Rococo, Italian Baroque, and Abstract Expressionism. Yukhnovich's work incorporates Disney princesses and Barbie dolls alongside Boucher's cherubs and pastoral scenes, transforming the seasonal cycle into an emotional rather than narrative flow. The artist has achieved notable auction results: 'Tu vas me faire rougir' sold for £1.9 million at Christie's in March, and 'Warm, Wet N' Wild' fetched $3.6 million at Sotheby's, eleven times its estimate. Her work is held in permanent collections including the Brooklyn Museum, Hirshhorn Museum, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, National Gallery of Victoria, and Government Art Collection. The installation is supported by Victoria Miro (London) and Hauser & Wirth (Zurich). On view through March 9.
