Flavio Lucchini's 90th Birthday, Schiele Masterpiece, and Mickey Mouse Debut

In 2018, the art world celebrated the 90th birthday of Flavio Lucchini, an Italian artist, editor, and art director who founded major fashion magazines including Amica, Vogue Italia, Lei/Glamour, Moda, Donna, and Mondo Uomo. In 1983, he co-founded Superstudio 13 with his wife Gisella Borioli, followed by Superstudio Più in 2000. A tribute exhibition of 90 works by Lucchini is ongoing at Superstudio until December 21, with works auctioned for charity. Triennale di Milano also hosted a night on October 27 for his birthday, featuring the installation Ghost (four mother-of-pearl resin sculptures) until November 30. Additionally, a long-lost Egon Schiele masterpiece, Dämmernde Stadt (1913), will be auctioned at Sotheby's Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale in New York on November 12, 2018. The painting was purchased in 1928 by Elsa Koditschek, a young Jewish widow in Vienna, and was forced to be sold during WWII. Meanwhile, Mickey Mouse debuted on November 18, 1928, in Steamboat Willie. On November 8, 2018, the immersive exhibition Mickey: The True Original Exhibition opens in New York, featuring works by 12 contemporary artists including Kenny Scharf.
