Flavio Caroli and Fabio Fazio Publish Art Book 'Voi siete qui'
Flavio Caroli and Fabio Fazio have published 'Voi siete qui. Discorso sull’arte intorno a noi' (Rai Libri, Rome 2022, 255 pp., €22). The book originated from their television collaboration on 'Che tempo che fa' and aims to help readers orient themselves in daily life through art. Caroli describes the volume as an anthropological compass rather than an art history textbook. He extends Arthur Schopenhauer's thought, echoed by Paul Klee, that art renders visible what is not always visible. Caroli cites examples of art and political revolution, such as Masaccio in Renaissance Florence and Jacques-Louis David in France, whose works from 'The Death of Marat' to 'Bonaparte Crossing the Alps' trace French history. He recalls organizing the 1970 exhibition 'Gennaio 1970' at the Museo Civico di Bologna, working with Gino De Dominicis, Jannis Kounellis, Gilberto Zorio, and Mario Merz. Caroli notes that Conceptual Art later dampened such experimental energies, an approach that prevailed during the ongoing digital revolution. The interview was conducted by Annalisa Trasatti.
