Flavia Tritto's 'La prima festa dell'anno' Explores Lesbian Community in Puglia

Flavia Tritto's exhibition 'La prima festa dell'anno' at VOGA Art Project in Bari delves into the hidden history of lesbian separatism in Puglia, focusing on the group Desiderandae, active since the 1990s. The show, concluding a research project titled 'VIVA. Esperienza e visibilità lesbica dal presente al futuro in Puglia' started in October 2024, features archival materials like flyers and posters from Desiderandae, reclaiming the party as political practice. Tritto, born in Bari in 1994, uses a multi-disciplinary approach to address themes of love, desire, and imagination from a non-binary perspective. Works include 'Sandokan,' an installation with childhood photos, a plastic sword, and a Sandokan costume worn by the artist at Carnival over twenty years ago, reflecting solitude and social invisibility. 'Prima di addormentarmi' presents white pillows with a ceramic and gold-leaf tongue, symbolizing unexpressed desire and the difficulty of uttering the word 'lesbian.' The exhibition is curated by VOGA Art Project in collaboration with MIXED LGBTQIA+.
