Flávia Almeida to Lead MASP as Heitor Martins Departs
Flávia Almeida, the vice president of the São Paulo Museum of Art (MASP), is set to become the new president, taking over from Heitor Martins, who will depart in September after 12 years. Almeida has a degree in business administration from Fundação Getúlio Vargas and an MBA from Harvard, along with extensive management experience. She's previously directed Fundação Bienal de São Paulo and led the board at Instituto Tomie Ohtake. Under Martins, MASP faced a serious crisis in 2014, with R$75 million in debt, but he turned things around, securing R$1.5 billion in investments and creating a R$30 million reserve, alongside the R$275 million expansion that opened last March. Martins remarked that Adriano Pedrosa's future as artistic director will depend on Almeida, but he doesn't see an immediate need for changes.
