FLAT Art Book Fair in Turin Hosts Maurizio Nannucci Retrospective

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

FLAT – Fiera Libro d’Arte Torino, the art book fair held during Turin Art Week 2019, featured a curated retrospective of Maurizio Nannucci titled "This sense of openness." The exhibition, on the upper floor of the Nuvola Lavazza venue near Porta Palazzo, spanned fifty years of Nannucci's work from 1967 to 2019, displaying 150 works with an editorial slant. Included were artist books, multiples, records, posters, magazines, photographs, postcards, small objects, and neon pieces. Notable works include the neon "More than meets the eye" and the Dattilogrammi series, where the word "blu" is written in blue ink on a blue background. Curator Elena Volpato described the works as "a reverberation of words, a persistent murmur where repetition decomposes and liberates phonemes, each time delivering a different sense, memory, or nuance of red, blue, or yellow." The show also featured collaborative projects with artists Richard Long, Antoni Muntadas, Oliver Mosset, and Sol LeWitt, for whom Nannucci produced volumes and multiples through his publishing houses Exempla and Zona Archives Edizioni, founded in the late 1960s. Most works were displayed on tables under glass, inviting interpretation. The fair itself offered a relaxed atmosphere with high-quality Italian and international exhibitors, featuring rare artist books, catalogs, monographs, and magazines.
