Flashback Fair's Opera Viva Barriera di Milano Honors Cristiano De Gaetano

The second edition of Opera Viva Barriera di Milano, an urban art project promoted by Flashback fair in Turin, presents its third installment on July 26, 2017, at 7 PM in Piazza Bottesini. The project, conceived by artist Alessandro Bulgini and curated by Christian Caliandro, pays homage to Cristiano De Gaetano, an artist born in Taranto in 1975 who died in 2013 at age 37. The event features a reproduction of De Gaetano's 2007 work 'Ice Age,' made from painted wax clay, displayed on a three-by-six-meter billboard in the Barriera di Milano district, a peripheral area with high immigration density. Caliandro describes the work as a reminder of the ice age De Gaetano foresaw. The series includes artists Raffaele Fiorella, Calixto Ramirez, Fabrizio Bellomo, Roxy in the Box, and Alessandro Bulgini. The project draws inspiration from Giacomo Leopardi's 'Operette Morali' and continues Bulgini's earlier works 'Decoro urbano in Barriera di Milano' (2014) and 'Taranto Opera Viva' (2015, 2017). De Gaetano's research explored identity as continuous mutation, personal identity expanded through time, and a 'biological' memory encompassing relatives, ancestors, and artworks from other eras. The homage runs from July 26 to August 28, 2017.
