Flash Art, Italy's longest-running contemporary art magazine, becomes an annual
Flash Art, founded in 1967 by Giancarlo Politi in Macerata, Italy, will transform its Italian edition into an annual publication starting in 2024. The magazine, which began as a small project printed in a Salesian typography, quickly became a key platform for avant-garde movements, notably publishing Germano Celant's manifesto for Arte Povera in its fifth issue. Under current director Gea Politi, who took over in 2015, the magazine has already transitioned to digital and now plans to focus its print efforts on a single, more substantial yearly volume, supplemented by thematic and geographic special issues. The international edition will continue its seasonal releases. The digital presence will be strengthened through the website and social media, while physical activities will expand via Casa Flash Art, a venue for meetings and art lessons. The editorial direction of Flash Art Italia has been taken over by Cristiano Seganfreddo, co-founder with Gea Politi of Politi Seganfreddo Edizioni and the Agenzia del Contemporaneo. The magazine has published nearly 1,000 issues across editions from China to France, featuring contributions from critics and artists such as Achille Bonito Oliva, Maurizio Cattelan, Francesco Bonami, and Massimiliano Gioni. Giancarlo Politi, who also launched Flash Art International in 1978 with his wife Helena Kontova, received an honorary degree from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Macerata in 2018.
