Flash Art celebrates 50 years with two-day symposium in Milan

publication · 2026-05-05

Flash Art, the contemporary art magazine founded by Giancarlo Politi in Rome in 1967, celebrated its 50th anniversary with a two-day symposium titled Flash Art 50 at the Auditorium of the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia in Milan on October 28-29, 2017. The event was conceived by Politi's daughter Gea, who recently took over as director. It featured five roundtable discussions, each covering a decade from the 1970s to the 2010s, with participants including artists, curators, dealers, and former editors. The symposium aimed to symbolically reproduce the art system. Politi noted the shift from dominant artist-stars like Sol LeWitt and Jeff Koons to a more level playing field with artists like Sterling Ruby and Wade Guyton. He expressed hope that Flash Art would continue for another 50 years under Gea's leadership.
