Five UK museums shortlisted for 2018 Museum of the Year prize
The Art Fund has revealed the contenders for its Museum of the Year 2018 award, featuring five museums from the UK. One notable mention is Brooklands Museum in Weybridge, which has undergone major renovations to showcase its impressive racing and classic car collections. Ferens Art Gallery in Hull experienced a visitor boom, exceeding 500,000, following a £5.2 million revamp and its role in hosting the Turner Prize. Glasgow Women’s Library stands out as the UK's only accredited museum focused on women's history, commissioning artists to create pieces inspired by its exhibits. The Postal Museum in London, which opened just six months ago, offers interactive displays and a Mail Rail experience. Tate St Ives reopened in October 2017 after a £20 million renovation.
