Five Puglian Artists Explore Wonder at Cisternino's Torre Civica
The exhibition 'Meraviglia' at the Torre Civica in Cisternino, a Norman-Swabian architectural landmark, brings together five artists from Puglia to investigate the concept of wonder. Valeria Quaranta (Vacuilab) presents fable and memory through grumpy puppets, paintings, and macramé works from her Grottaglie studio, evoking a dark past. Emilio D'Elia's 'neoplatonic' painting explores mystical symbolism with his installation 'I suoni del centro,' featuring three works on paper that probe the boundaries of ultramarine blue. Gianfranco Basso's environmental installation uses countless red threads hanging in the dim light to recall the Moirae of Greek mythology, who cut the threads of life. Gianluca Esposito and Fabio Maria Alecci conclude the show with 'Kinderszenen,' an installation that recreates 'childhood scenes' through sculpture, blending playful and sinister atmospheres to address the universality of childhood. The exhibition is curated by Cecilia Pavone, an art historian and critic from Taranto.
