Five New York Exhibitions Reflecting on 2020

exhibition · 2026-04-27

As 2020 draws to a close, five exhibitions in New York contemplate the challenges of the pandemic and social unrest. "20/20" at David Zwirner Gallery showcases pieces by Richard Serra, Yayoi Kusama, Oscar Murillo, and Barbara Kruger. At Petzel Gallery, Derek Fordjour's "Self Must Die" includes collages, a puppet performance titled "Fly Away," and a sculptural piece named "Vestibule." "A Fractured Sigh," curated by Charlotte Bravin Lee and Chiara Mannarino at BravinLee Programs, explores themes of breath in relation to COVID-19 and Black Lives Matter, featuring Alessandro Teoldi's works. Gagosian Gallery highlights systemic racism in Titus Kaphar's "From a Tropical Space." Jonathan Horowitz's "We Fight to Build a Free World" at The Jewish Museum includes contributions from various artists. These exhibitions will be available until December 2020 and February 2021.
