Five New York exhibitions in March 2014 feature Althamer, Schendel, Altmejd, Shelley-Schweder, and Pardo
Pawel Althamer presents his first U.S. museum exhibition at the New Museum on the Lower East Side, running through April 13, 2014. Curated by Massimiliano Gioni and Gary Carrion-Murayari, the show includes his Venice Biennale piece The Venetians alongside videos documenting his drug use and spiritual quests. Mira Schendel's work at Hauser & Wirth on the Upper East Side, open until April 26, demonstrates Bauhaus influences in Brazilian art, positioning her alongside Lygia Clark and Lygia Pape. David Altmejd's exhibition Juices at Andrea Rosen in Chelsea features The Flux and The Puddle, a grotesque and playful plexiglass-encased installation, closing March 8. Ward Shelley and Alex Schweder are living continuously in a 25-foot wheel at The Boiler in Williamsburg through April 5, describing their project as performance architecture. Jorge Pardo has installed a bedroom at Friedrich Petzel Gallery in Chelsea, offering an intimate counterpoint to art fair socializing, with the show ending April 5. These exhibitions coincide with The Armory Show period in New York.
