Five New York exhibitions feature Immendorff, Katchadourian, Hurtado, Gilardi, and Smith
Jörg Immendorff's paintings, created for working-class audiences, are displayed at Michael Werner through 13 April, including his Maoist Paintings series from the 1970s. Nina Katchadourian's solo exhibition at Fridman Gallery, running until 31 March, centers on her Seat Assignment project, developed over nine years and 275 flights, featuring photographs altered with in-flight objects. Luchita Hurtado's works at Hauser & Wirth 69th Street, on view through 6 April, blend muralism, surrealism, and abstract expressionism, reflecting her life from Venezuela to Los Angeles. Bernard Gilardi's approximately 400 previously unseen paintings, curated by Maurizio Cattelan, are shown at Shrine through 17 March, with themes of magical realism and allegory. Kiki Smith's exhibition at Pace Gallery West 24th Street, open until 30 March, includes recent etchings, sculptures, and cyanotypes exploring myth and natural cycles, coinciding with a European retrospective and a Hydra installation.
