Five New Video Games to Try in June 2022

May 2022 saw the return of several game developers. Numinous Games released 'Area Man Lives', a VR game where the player is a radio DJ guiding a caller to avert a disaster. It features voice recognition and voices by Max Greenfield and Joel McHale, but suffers from technical issues. Jump Over the Age released 'Citizen Sleeper', a sci-fi interactive narrative about survival on a space station, inspired by Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing's book. The game uses tabletop RPG mechanics but has been criticized for being too optimistic. Leonard Menchiari released 'Trek to Yomi', a samurai game inspired by Akira Kurosawa's films, set in the Edo period. It succeeds visually but lacks historical accuracy and engaging gameplay. Ludomotion released 'Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer's Legacy', a fantasy game with procedural generation and permadeath, focusing on narrative rather than level design. Arianna Ravioli released 'Will Die Alone', a short game about memory deletion, developed as her master's thesis at IULM University. The game explores the control of technology over memories and is available in an expanded commercial version with support from Fantastico Studio.
