Five new Japanese anime series and films coming to Netflix in July 2020
Netflix expands its Japanese animation catalog with five new titles arriving in July 2020. The lineup includes Makoto Shinkai's "5 cm per Second" (July 1), a three-episode film about distance and separation following friends Takaki and Akari; Masaaki Yuasa's "The Tatami Galaxy" (July 1), an 11-episode series based on Tomihiko Morimi's autobiographical novel about a university student's existential reflections; "Akame ga Kill!" (July 1), an anime adaptation of the shōnen manga by Takahiro and Tetsuya Tashiro following a young man fighting a corrupt government; the third chapter of "Inuyasha" (date unspecified), based on Rumiko Takahashi's manga about a half-demon seeking the Shikon Jewel; and "Japan Sinks: 2020" (July 9), a 10-episode post-apocalyptic series by Science SARU and Masaaki Yuasa inspired by Sakyo Komatsu's novel, following siblings Ayumu and Go trying to survive natural disasters that threaten to sink Japan.
