Five New Graphic Novels: From Milo Manara's Kamasutra to a David Bowie Biopic

Five new graphic novels have been released in Italy this autumn. Reinhard Kleist's 'Starman' (Bao Publishing, 2022, €21) is a biographical comic about David Bowie, focusing on the creation of his alter ego Ziggy Stardust. Milo Manara's 'Kamasutra' (Feltrinelli Comics, 2022, €26) adapts the ancient Indian text with his signature erotic style, originally conceived as a video game in the late 1990s. Lise&Talami's 'Jungle Justice' (Coconino Press, 2022, €20) is a science fiction story where plants and fungi wage war against humanity for environmental destruction. Ciaj Rocchi and Matteo Demonte's 'Le stelle di Dora' (Solferino, 2022, €12.90) commemorates the 40th anniversary of the death of anti-mafia general Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa, using his letters to his wife Dora and a collage-inspired graphic style; the book will be distributed to 11,000 high schools across Italy. Alice Milani's 'Wisława Szymborska. Si dà il caso che io sia qui' (BeccoGiallo, 2022, €18) is a reissue of her 2015 graphic novel about the Polish Nobel Prize-winning poet, covering her life from Krakow in the 1930s through World War II and her literary career.
