Five New Art Books: From Wim Wenders to Eric Hebborn

A roundup of five recent art book releases in Italy. Meltemi publishes 'L'atto di vedere', a collection of interviews and reflections by filmmaker Wim Wenders from 1988–1992, exploring his dream-driven film conception amid rapid industry changes. Stefano De Matteis's 'Gli sciamani non ci salveranno' (Elèuthera, 2023) examines shaman figures as models of alternative life and their role in ecological movements opposing globalized finance and industry. Postmedia Books reissues Silvia Bordini's 'Videoarte e arte, tracce per una storia' (1995) with a new analysis by Valentino Catricalà covering developments in the 1990s. Officina Libraria releases the first commented edition of Giovanni Baglione's 'Le vite de’ pittori, scultori et architetti' (1642), featuring over 200 biographies of artists active in Rome between the 16th and 17th centuries, including early printed lives of Annibale Carracci, Caravaggio, and Rubens. Angelo Colla Editore publishes Eric Hebborn's previously unpublished manuscript 'Il linguaggio della linea. Trattato sulla pratica del disegno', a treatise on drawing by the 20th century's most famous forger, who replicated masters from Michelangelo to Gainsborough.
