Five Must-See Stands at Artissima 2016

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

Artissima 2016 at Oval Lingotto features 193 galleries, 2,000 works, and 34 countries, directed by Sarah Cosulich Canalutto. Rotwand Gallery from Zurich presents a solo show of Klaus Lutz (d. 2009) with delicate artist books combining drawing, word, and installation. Thomas Brambilla of Brescia showcases young artists Erik Saglia (26, Turin) and Edoardo Piermattei (23, Ancona) with contrasting practices: rigorous geometric painting versus gestural, material sculpture. Marie Laure Fleisch from Rome and Brussels pairs Colombian Santiago Reyes Villaveces (b. 1986) with Italian Alice Cattaneo (b. 1976, Milan), whose works engage in aerial sculptural dialogue using luminous metals and humble materials. Rhona Hoffman Gallery from Chicago presents Michael Rakowitz's work from the Istanbul Biennial 'Saltwater' by Carolyn Christov Bakargiev, evoking the Armenian genocide centenary through Istanbul Art Nouveau relics. Massimo Minini of Brescia juxtaposes a 19th-century anonymous French painting 'Jacob and His Sons' with contemporary works by Sheila Hicks and Ariel Schlesinger.
