festival-fair · 2026-04-26

The European Month of Photography (EMOP), Germany's largest biennial photography festival, returns to Berlin for its 11th edition with around 100 exhibitions. Five highlights include: Helmut Newton's Polaroid works at the Helmut Newton Foundation – Museum für Fotografie, featuring over 300 original Polaroids exploring his creative process; Roberto Conte and Stefano Perego's 'Brutalist Italy' at the Italian Institute of Culture, the first exhibition of their five-year, 20,000 km documentation of Italian brutalist architecture, with a book published by FUEL; Nicole Woischwill's series 'No longing for the past' at the Anakoluth bookstore, curated by bookseller Christiane Hahn; Silvia Rosi's 'Protektorat' at C/O Berlin, examining colonial language policies in Togo through archival material and studio photography inspired by 1960s-70s West African aesthetics; and 'The Cosmos of Der Blaue Reiter' at the Kupferstichkabinett, organized in seven chapters covering prints by Kandinsky, works on paper by August Macke, and Marc's flora and fauna, also honoring the exchange between Marc and poet Else Lasker-Schüler and women artists in the group.
