Five must-see contemporary art exhibitions in Copenhagen
Copenhagen Contemporary presents Donna Huanca's first Scandinavian solo show, 'Lengua llorona', a site-specific multimedia installation combining painting, sculpture, perfume, sound, and performance. Huanca deconstructs gender conventions and rethinks the body in relation to the ecosystem using raw pigments, oils, turmeric, sand, steel, leather, hair, and clay, with the scent of Bursera graveolens (Palo Santo) creating a mystical atmosphere. At Cisternerne, the collective SUPERFLEX presents 'It's not the end of the World', an aquatic installation inspired by studies predicting sea-level rises of up to 2.5 meters, reflecting on climate change and human survival. Andreas Emenius at Nikolaj Kunsthal merges music, performance, and painting in 'When unknown becomes familiar', featuring a fountain, performers enacting daily rituals, and large expressionist canvases. Søren Thilo Funder at Den Frie Center of Contemporary Art presents 'The Watchers of Malheur (TWEET TWEET)', a video installation blending Oregon landscapes, imaginary war scenes, and cosmic views, metaphorizing absurd human conflicts. At Fotografisk Center, 'Everything Represents ‒ Nothing Is' explores Ingmar Bergman's visual art through contemporary photographers like Magdalena von Rudy and Ragnar Kjartansson, alongside set designs by Per Axel Lundgren.
