Five May Exhibitions Tackle Climate, Memory, and Visibility

Aesthetica Magazine showcases five exhibitions set to launch in May 2026, focusing on pressing issues. The National Portrait Gallery in London will host Catherine Opie's 'To Be Seen,' displaying over 80 portraits spanning three decades, including 'Being and Having' (1991) and images from Barack Obama's inauguration in 2009. In Kuopio, the VB Photographic Center features Tiina Itkonen's 'Anori – Northern Wind,' which captures the impact of climate change on Arctic regions and Greenland's inhabitants. At ARKEN in Ishøj, SUPERFLEX's 'Come Hell or High Water' transforms the museum into a submerged ark. The Biennale of Sydney, titled 'Rememory,' continues until 14 June, showcasing artists such as Basel Abbas and Dread Scott. Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg's 'On Nervous Ground' presents works from the 1970s to the present.
