Five Major Photography Exhibitions Spotlight Documentary Masters from Levitt to Kochetova

From 2024 to 2025, five photography exhibitions across Europe will highlight the art of documentary photography. Kicking off on 24 October at Fotomuseum Winterthur, Helen Levitt's 'A Way of Seeing' showcases her iconic street photography from New York. On 4 April, Fotomuseum Den Haag will unveil Letizia Battaglia's retrospective 'Life, Love and Death in Sicily,' which features her extensive Mafia archive of 600,000 images. Foam Amsterdam will host Julia Kochetova's 'War is Personal' starting 6 March, presenting powerful frontline visuals from Ukraine. Moderna Museet in Stockholm will present 'Brassaï: The Secret Signs of Paris' on 28 March, displaying 100 photographs. Finally, from 21 February, Galerie Springer Berlin will exhibit Sebastian Wells' 'Arena,' offering a critique of Olympic imagery. These exhibitions reflect the progression of documentary photography and its impact on social activism.
