Five Illustrated Books on the Italian Resistance for Young Readers

Artribune presents five illustrated books that recount the Italian Resistance for new generations. The selection includes "Bella ciao. Il canto della Resistenza" by Lorena Canottiere (Einaudi Ragazzi, 2020), which pairs the famous partisan song with large-format illustrations; "Nome di battaglia Nero" by Sonia Maria Luce Possentini (Rrose Sélavy, 2021), telling the story of her uncle, a partisan in the Garibaldi Brigade; "Noi ragazzi della libertà" by Gad Lerner, Laura Gnocchi, and Piero Macola (Feltrinelli, 2020), a collection of firsthand accounts from young fighters; "Piazza 25 aprile" by Alessandro Sanna and Pierdomenico Baccalario (Rizzoli, 2020), which follows a girl's perspective from 1934 to 1945; and "Bandierine. Tutta una storia di Resistenze" edited by Stefano Gallo and Tuono Pettinato (Barta, 2015), a comic featuring seven episodes by various artists. The article emphasizes the need to combat cultural resistance against rising nationalism and to transmit the values of the Liberation to youth.
