Five Graphic Novels to Gift This Christmas 2019

Artribune presents its final roundup of recommended graphic novels for the 2019 holiday season, featuring five new releases. 'L'ombra di Allende' by Jorge González and Olivier Bras (001 Edizioni, 128 pp., €19) fictionalizes the 1973 Chilean coup through the eyes of Leo, a child of Chilean immigrants in South Africa. Seth's 'Clyde Fans' (Coconino Press, 488 pp., €42) follows two brothers running a failing Canadian fan company, exploring personal and professional collapse. 'Lo specchio di Tina' by Cinzia Ghigliano (Contrastobooks, 63 pp., €19.90) illustrates the life of revolutionary photographer Tina Modotti, from factory work to her travels with Edward Weston and Frida Kahlo. Nora Krug's 'Heimat' (Einaudi Stile Libero, 288 pp., €19) is a mixed-media memoir confronting German guilt over WWII through family history. Vincenzo Filosa's 'Italo' (Rizzoli Lizard, 192 pp., €20) depicts a cartoonist's addiction to painkillers and his path to recovery.
