Five Earth Day Exhibitions Spotlight Environmental Art
In celebration of Earth Day 2026, Aesthetica Magazine showcases five exhibitions focused on climate change and environmental conservation. At Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, Julian Charrière's 'Midnight Zone' (running until 12 July) employs multimedia to investigate issues like water pollution, glacier melting, acidification, and the dangers of deep-sea mining. The Vancouver Art Gallery hosts 'Future Geographies: Art in the Century of Climate Change' (14 May–10 January), marking Canada’s first significant global survey of climate crisis art, featuring over 35 pieces by artists such as Teresita Fernández and John Akomfrah. Additionally, Liam Young's inaugural UK solo exhibition, 'In Other Worlds,' at Barbican Centre, London (21 May–6 September), offers speculative films on environmental futures. Tiina Itkonen's 'Anori – Northern Wind' at VB Photographic Center, Kuopio (until 3 May) captures three decades of Arctic life in Greenland, highlighting climate change's effects on hunting communities. Finally, 'Contrast and Indifference' at the Canadian Cultural Centre in Paris (until 16 May) presents four female artists, including Isabelle Hayeur, who reflect on global cultural and landscape inequalities. Earth Day, which began in 1970, engages 1 billion individuals across 190 nations, with the 2026 theme being 'Our Power, Our Planet.'
