Five Contemporary Artists Reinterpret Calabria's Archaeological Heritage
The third edition of In-ruins, a residency and research project curated by Associazione Archeofuturo, took place across multiple locations in Calabria, featuring artists Alice Pedroletti, Gianmarco Porru, Armando Perna, SV Randall, and The New Liquidity. The initiative aims to reinterpret Calabrian and Mediterranean archaeological heritage through contemporary art, historiographic reactivation, cultural sharing, and social practice. The first phase engaged artists with the ruins of the Convento di San Domenico in Soriano Calabro (Vibo Valentia) and the archives of the adjacent Biblioteca Calabrese, a site rich in traditions, rituals, myths, and folklore. The second phase was held at the Villa Romana in Palazzi di Casignana (Reggio Calabria), one of the most important sites in the Ionian south, featuring residential and thermal structures and a 500-square-meter mosaic complex. The residency resulted in installation, video, performance, and photographic works created through artist interventions and dialogue with the territory.
