Five Canadian Artists Shortlisted for 2016 Sobey Art Award

The 2016 Sobey Art Award, Canada's leading contemporary art accolade, has shortlisted five Canadian artists under 40. The nominees were announced by The Sobey Art Foundation and the National Gallery of Canada, selected by a jury of five members from various regions. Representing the West Coast and Yukon is Jeremy Shaw, while Brenda Draney hails from the Prairies and North. Ontario's nominee is Charles Stankievech, and Hajra Waheed stands for Québec. William Robinson is the representative for the Atlantic region. Each artist will receive $10,000, and the overall winner will be awarded $50,000, with the announcement set for November 2016. Their works will be displayed at the National Gallery from October 6, 2016, to February 5, 2017.
