Five Berlin Galleries Launch Collaborative Good to Talk Event Ahead of Berlin Art Week

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

Five young Berlin galleries—Eigen + Art Lab, Thomas Fischer, Klemm's, Daniel Marzona, and Tanja Wagner—have joined forces to organize Good to Talk, a 46-hour marathon of talks, performances, concerts, film screenings, and DJ sets from September 8 to 10, 2017, at Berghain Kantine in Berlin. The event precedes the Berlin Art Week (September 13-17), which features Art Berlin and Positions as main fairs. The galleries aim to attract audiences outside the traditional art world, responding to Berlin's recent economic dynamics marked by young affluent residents and newcomers with little art experience. Sebastian Klemm, co-founder of Klemm's, stated, 'Good to Talk is an offer from the art community to the public,' hoping to provide a broader audience with a first glimpse into the art world. Tanja Wagner noted that the traditional gallery system—classic exhibitions and fairs—has become exhausting for collectors, curators, and artists, prompting a desire for experimentation. Daniel Marzona emphasized that unlike previous influential gallery groups in Berlin, they are not interested in forming a closed group but in fostering new collaborations and formats. The initiative reflects a shift toward non-commercial business models, acknowledging that fairs alone are insufficient and that the art scene needs to invent new approaches that initially have nothing to do with commerce.
