Five approaches to storytelling through video games at IVIPRO Days 2021

The Italian Videogame Program association hosted IVIPRO Days 2021 entirely online, emphasizing the representation of reality in video games. The event explored five unique perspectives: games based on historical events, those set in actual locations, narratives inspired by true stories, titles tackling contemporary issues, and metaphorical games. Among the featured titles were 'A Painter's Tale: Curon, 1950', depicting the 1950 flooding of Curon; 'Hwaet! The Vercelli Book Saga', which follows the real-life nun Eve of Wilton in 1076; and 'Dive in the Past', an underwater archaeological adventure by 3D Research. Other notable mentions included 'Nascence', 'Shakespeare Showdown – with a kiss I die', 'Dandara', 'Road 96', and 'Il papiro perduto'. Additionally, projects like SARIM and PAC-PAC, funded by Sardegna Ricerche, were highlighted for their focus on digitalization and accessible cultural game development.
