Fischli/Weiss's 'Suddenly This Overview' Installed at Fondazione Prada's Torre in Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Fondazione Prada in Milan has unveiled 'Suddenly This Overview' (1981-2019) by Swiss artists Peter Fischli (Zurich, 1952) and David Weiss (Zurich, 1946-2012) on the fifth floor of the Torre designed by Rem Koolhaas. The installation, first presented in Zurich in 1981 and later at Tate Modern in 2006 and the Venice Biennale in 2011, comprises 157 small to medium-sized sculptures made of unfired clay arranged on plinths of varying heights. The work explores the ephemeral nature of life through unconventional interpretations of everyday objects, with no predetermined viewing path and labels ranging from single words to 70-word tongue twisters, some carved directly into the clay. Fischli/Weiss have a prior relationship with Fondazione Prada: Fischli previously created photographs for Prada's clothing line and curated 'Stop Panting' at Ca' Corner della Regina in 2021, investigating the narrative of the end of painting.
