First Retrospective of Swiss Impressionist Cuno Amiet Opens in Mendrisio
The Museo d’Arte di Mendrisio is hosting the inaugural retrospective in Ticino focused on Cuno Amiet (1868–1961), a pivotal figure in Swiss Impressionism. This exhibition showcases approximately seventy of his paintings and graphic pieces, illustrating his diverse artistic explorations. Amiet developed friendships with prominent artists such as Giovanni Giacometti, Paul Gauguin, Matisse, Klee, Kirchner, Kandinsky, and Ferdinand Hodler. It begins with Giovanni Giacometti legge alla finestra (1970). Curated by Simone Soldini, Franz Müller, Viola Radlach, and Aurora Scotti, the event features a catalogue. Notable works, including Doppio ritratto, Il bucato, and La raccolta della frutta (1914), express his affection for his wife Anna, while three paintings named Paradiso (1894, 1900, 1958) encapsulate his artistic journey.
