First retrospective of I Santissimi duo opens at EXMA in Cagliari
The EXMA space in Cagliari presents the first retrospective of the artistic duo I Santissimi, composed of Sara Renzetti and Antonello Serra. Curated by Simona Campus, the exhibition showcases nearly a decade of their research through a carefully selected and elegantly installed display. The show opens with 'In Vivo' (2013), an installation featuring two rectangular capsules containing life-sized female and male figures, highlighting themes of incommunicability. 'Requiem' explores the passage between life and death through photographic and sculptural works, with light shaping large faces like Amad, Maria Celeste, and Demetrio. The series 'Natural History' presents small silicone bodies as 'fossil commemorations' using resin to preserve memory of hypothetical pasts or futures. 'Omnis' catalogs and exhibits feces as a form of common vitality, contrasting with Piero Manzoni's approach. The emotional center is 'Épave' (2016), an impossible anatomy representing a coral body of thousands of drifting bodies, symbolizing the tragedy of migration. 'Migrants' offers a self-portrait of the artists as migratory birds, while 'Mom' presents a mass of flesh as malleable matter announcing a new beginning. A site-specific installation will soon be placed on the EXMA facade.
