First online catalogue raisonné of Edgar Degas launches with 60 works
On March 5, 2018, Michel Schulman, a French Knight of Arts and Letters, released the initial segment of a new online catalogue raisonné dedicated to Edgar Degas. This initiative aims to encompass over 2,000 of the Impressionist's oils and pastels by 2020. The earlier catalogue, created by Paul-André Lemoisne in 1946, documented 1,450 pieces, while a 1984 supplement by Théodore Reff added another 150 works. Schulman’s digital catalogue features color reproductions, technical specifications, exhibition histories, and bibliographies. He has also produced catalogues raisonnés for artists Théodore Rousseau and Frédéric Bazille. The online format facilitates updates more efficiently than traditional print. Additionally, the article highlights UMA (Universal Museum of Art), an online museum established on December 5, 2017, by four French creators: Jean Vergès, Benjamin Hélion, Benjamin Lanot, and Damien Jacq, showcasing exhibitions such as The Spoils of War and Dark Romanticism.
