First National Survey of Italian Women Comic Artists Opens in Brescia
In Brescia, the MO.CA – Centro per le nuove Culture is hosting "Le ragazze non sanno disegnare" (Girls Can't Draw), which is the first national survey dedicated to female comic creators in Italy. This intriguing title challenges common stereotypes. Curated by Marta Comini, Maria La Duca, and Melania Gazzotti, the show features the work of twenty artists, such as Barbara Baldi, Iris Biasio, and Zuzu, among others. These creators, from various backgrounds, use different styles to explore women's experiences—some from their lives, some historical, and others purely fictional. This exhibition, part of the Comicon Bergamo 2023 festival, is backed by the Municipality of Brescia, celebrating the region's role as the Italian Capital of Culture for 2023.
