First museum survey of Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme at Astrup Fearnley Museet

exhibition · 2026-04-22

Astrup Fearnley Museet in Oslo presents 'An echo buried deep deep down but calling still', the first museum survey of artist duo Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme, covering their collaborative work since 2007. The exhibition spans video, sound, installation, and performance, highlighting their poetics of resistance and use of fragmentary narratives. Central to their practice is how communities endure oppressive political systems like state-sanctioned violence and colonialism, drawing on sources from Adrienne Rich to Roberto Bolaño. Their soundtracks employ sampling techniques from London's 1990s Drum and Bass scene, layering archival material with electronic tracks. Videos are projected onto multiple irregular surfaces, offering multiple viewpoints. A performance programme will accompany the exhibition.
