First Italian Poetry Festival in Madrid Bridges Spanish and Italian Traditions

From May 8 to 12, 2026, the inaugural Festival de la Poesía Italiana en Madrid will be hosted at the Instituto Italiano de Cultura de Madrid. This festival, organized by the institute, seeks to honor poetry as a vital expression of the Italian language and foster intercultural dialogue. Artistic director Davide Rondoni, a noted Italian poet and thinker, envisions the festival as a delightful surprise and a celebration of diverse perspectives, enhancing the connection between Italian and Spanish poetry. It aligns with two significant anniversaries: the 800th birthday of Saint Francis of Assisi, known for his nature-themed poems, and the centenary of Federico García Lorca's "Caracola." The festival will feature poets such as Sauro Albisani, Giulio Di Dio, and Raquel Lanseros, among others. Events will include readings, discussions, music-poetry blends, and a documentary screening titled "Vida de un hombre – Giuseppe Ungaretti." All activities are free, but prior email reservations are necessary. The festival aims to establish itself as an annual event.
