First Graphic Novel About Banksy Released by Centauria
Francesco Matteuzzi and Marco Maraggi have published "Il suo nome è Banksy" (Centauria, Milan 2022), the first comic book entirely dedicated to the elusive street artist Banksy. The graphic novel follows two street art enthusiasts on a journey through Banksy's works, from his early murals in Bristol to recent masterpieces, including the 1999 Seattle protests that inspired the flower thrower mural and the Afghanistan war-era London piece reimagining Pulp Fiction with bananas. Matteuzzi provocatively questions whether Banksy's self-told stories can be trusted, given his anonymity, and argues that the mystery itself is central to Banksy's appeal. The book includes references to the 2008 Mail on Sunday investigation that claimed to reveal Banksy's identity, which was dismissed by his spokesperson. The 128-page volume costs €14.
