First DVD Box Set of Straub-Huillet Films Released by Montparnasse

publication · 2026-04-23

Éditions Montparnasse has launched the first DVD publication of the complete works of filmmakers Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet. The inaugural volume spans from their early short films Machorka-Muff (1962) and Non réconciliés (1964) to their later period with Du Jour au lendemain (1996), including the 1974 magnum opus Moïse et Aaron. The set highlights lesser-known early and late works that challenge reductive views of the duo's cinema, showcasing stylistic diversity such as the rapid editing and temporal shifts in Non réconciliés and the elegant, Guitry-like charm of Du Jour au lendemain. The latter is praised as a celebration of fidelity and conjugal disputatio. Additionally, Montparnasse has released an 18-DVD box set titled Palette l'Intégrale, collecting Alain Jaubert's television series originally broadcast on Arte, with bonus materials and a 44-page booklet.
