Firenze RiVista Becomes Biennial, Focuses on Natural Elements

The independent publishing festival Firenze RiVista returns to Florence's former prison Le Murate for its seventh edition, now rebranded as a biennial to emphasize research over market speed. Running from September 22 to 24, 2023, the festival adopts the theme "Elementi – Acqua, Aria, Terra, Fuoco" (Water, Air, Earth, Fire), exploring contemporary culture through these natural elements. Over seventy events are scheduled across the Monumental Complex of Le Murate, involving more than fifty magazines and twenty publishing houses. Notable guests include Francesco D'Isa (director of L'Indiscreto), sociolinguist Vera Gheno, and literary critic Daniela Brogi. New collaborations include a free workshop by Scuola Holden led by writer Marco Archetti, and a panel connecting with inmates of Gorgona prison. The visual identity is designed by Florence-based artist Lisa Gelli, co-founder of the illustration collective Le Vanvere. The festival was founded in 2015 by cultural groups including con.tempo, 404: file not found, and the magazine L'Eco del Nulla, which still organizes it with publishing house effequ.
