Firenze hotel transforms into artist residency during pandemic

exhibition · 2026-04-27

With the pandemic still affecting the world, the Zucconi family decided to close the Torre Guelfa hotel in Florence. Instead of its usual operations, they transformed some spaces into an artist residency for seven recent graduates from the Fine Arts Academy. This initiative kicked off in January 2021 and culminated in the exhibition "Margine," which opened on May 7, 2021, and ran until May 23, 2021, by appointment only. The hotel, located in Palazzo Acciaiuoli—dating back to 1341—was initially commissioned by Niccolò Acciaiuoli. The building served as a monastery until the Napoleonic invasions. Organized by Eterotopie Dissidenti, the project included artists like Gianluca Braccini and Giovanni Bonechi, with Corso Zucconi leading the effort.
