Fiorucci Art Trust's 'Lezioni d'Italiano' Goes Digital with SAGG Napoli
During the COVID-19 lockdown, the Fiorucci Art Trust has moved its 'Lezioni d'Italiano' program online. The series, curated by Milovan Farronato, previously featured performances by Italian artists such as Patrizio Di Massimo, Chiara Fumai, Liliana Moro, Sissi, Ian Kiaren, Anna Franceschini, Diego Marcon, Federico Chiari, and Alex Cecchetti at its Sloane Ave venue until 2015. The eighth lesson, Lesson#8, is now entirely digital and features artist Sofia Ginevra Gianni, known as SAGG (born 1991 in Naples). Her project, SAGG SCOPA FAT, explores the aesthetics of Southern Italy through a reinterpretation of Neapolitan playing cards, focusing on the game of Scopa. The project includes home-made videos and virtual events involving family and friends, and will expand on digital platforms over the coming months. SAGG's research examines the socio-economic situation of Southern Europe, addressing stereotypes and the cultural identity of the South, which she argues is often marginalized and seen as folkloric. The foundation's founder, Nicoletta Fiorucci Russo, stated that the project will continue online, emphasizing that art does not stop.
