Filwa Nazer's textile and architectural practice explores embodiment, identity, and site-responsive installations

artist · 2026-04-22

Filwa Nazer’s artistic path took a turn after she faced rejection from art college, prompting her to enroll in Milan's Istituto Marangoni fashion school. Originally from Wales and having grown up in Saudi Arabia, she pursued her art studies in Jeddah and London, focusing on the body as a vessel of energies through clothing. Her 2019 exhibition, Sites Unknown, at Hafez Gallery in Jeddah, included installations such as The Skin I Live In and Missing A Rib, which tackled themes of masculine dominance in female spaces. In 2021, she presented the Five Women series at the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale, highlighting the private fashion expressions of Saudi women. In 2024, she designed Preserving Shadows, a 40-meter walkway for Desert X AlUla. Since 2023, Nazer has been represented by Selma Feriani Gallery, with upcoming projects including Paris+ par Art Basel 2024 and a solo exhibition in 2025.
