other · 2026-05-05

The Fondazione Cineteca Italiana presents the film "Egon Schiele" by Dieter Berner at Cinema Spazio Oberdan in Milan from November 20 to 30, 2017, with nationwide screenings on November 27, 28, and 29. The film focuses on the life of Egon Schiele, a protégé of Gustav Klimt and a leading figure of early Viennese Expressionism, whose centenary of death occurs in 2018. Schiele, portrayed by Noah Saavedra, died at age 28 but left a prolific body of oil paintings, watercolors, and drawings. His art was influenced by uninhibited female figures, notably his sister Gerti and the seventeen-year-old Wally, immortalized in the painting "Death and the Maiden" at the Leopold Museum in Vienna. The film is based on the novel "Tod und Mädchen: Egon Schiele und die Frauen" by Hilde Berger, co-written with Berner. It was produced with support from Film Fund Luxembourg, Austrian Film Institute, Vienna Film Fund, FISA, Eurimages, and Lower Austria, in collaboration with ORF. Distributed in Italy by Draka Distribution in collaboration with Twelve Entertainment.
